Upcycling solution for textile waste: A more sustainable Adoro FARM

Those who follow FARM can see a shift toward greater consciousness and a commitment to talking to their audience about sustainability. The best part is that they are moving beyond just talk, and we at Rede Asta are partners in this process. Come along with us to learn more:

Sustainable gifts for Farmetes

FARM customers are so passionate about the brand that they’ve earned a name: Farmetes. The most engaged ones have a very close relationship with the brand, and as a result, they receive an exclusive treat during their birthday month.

Since January, these VIP customers have been receiving cushion covers during their birthday month, lovingly handmade by the artisans at Toque de Mão. The impact of this initiative includes over 7,000 in direct income for the women who produce them and more than 70 kg of fabric repurposed through this upcycling solution project.

Fabric scrap donations

In recent months, we have been involved in some very important processes for our artisans. FARM began donating monthly bags of fabric scraps left over from cutting, allowing Rede Asta artisans to create products from these materials.

The fashion industry throws away tons of usable fabric every single day! When FARM learned there was a network of women capable of transforming their leftovers into new products, they believed this was a nobler path than the trash for the ends of fabric rolls that aren't large enough for new garments, as well as the scraps left over between cuts. Since April 2018, these scraps have become raw material in the hands of Rede Asta artisans, and over 4,000 kilograms of fabric have been diverted from environmental impact to create social impact.

“Partnering with Farm is something we’ve always dreamed of and tried for a few times... I think the VegPlac Pupunha with an @adorofarm print is a perfect marriage between fashion and sustainability. Beyond, of course, adding value to the products, since their prints are well-known and adored by a passionate FARM audience. It’s socio-environmental work done in a simple, beautiful, and low-cost way, since only the scraps are donated.” Mônica Castedo – Mulheres da Reserva Botânica

The commitment of the 28 production groups in Rio de Janeiro involved in the partnership is to pick up the bags of fabric on the agreed-upon date, not to use the fabrics to make clothing—as those are exclusive to the brand—and to attach the partnership label to every product.
