The Rede Asta team hosted Dominic Barter, an expert in Nonviolent Communication. On the morning of November 14th, everyone from the board of directors to the interns gathered to learn about and begin practicing how to apply this concept.
Nonviolent Communication does not encourage the absence of conflict, but rather the reclamation of the power of dialogue and empathy, even when dealing with challenging behaviors. The idea is to foster the relational competence and emotional resilience needed to transform conflict into connection and sustain strong, flexible partnerships. It invites us to explore new possibilities for effective communication, supporting a personally and socially engaged compassion based on the intelligence of our hearts.
Dominic facilitated the resolution of existing conflicts at Rede Asta through Nonviolent Communication. Dialogue and the pursuit of questions that seek to understand rather than accuse showed that even when you disagree with someone's actions, the best way to resolve the issue is to discover what you have in common and co-create a solution from that shared ground.
