On the afternoon of Saturday, March 17th, Espaço Asta hosted the Odyssee workshop. The activity focused on creating and recreating accessories using waste materials, including electronic components. Beyond promoting sustainable fashion, the exercise of repurposing materials that previously seemed unusable was also an act of empowerment and creativity.
Offering this workshop alongside the strength of Asta is more than just an act of valuing manual production, environmental awareness, or fashion. It is an act of resistance and an affirmation that we continue the struggle to free minds to produce with autonomy and embrace their identities and knowledge. Fernanda Nicolini | Workshop facilitator and founder of Odyssee

The activity explored art, upcycling, and fashion through the culture of do it yourself (or DIY). However, it was primarily an experience of knowledge exchange among the participants. This included Laura, daughter of Luisa Bousada, who also took part in the workshop and was able to repurpose some waste materials to create a pair of earrings.
“We had a wonderful afternoon. Fernanda shared so much knowledge with us, encouraged free creation, and left us with a message about the importance of each person's attitude toward unnecessary consumption.” Luisa Bousada | Laura's mother, Art editor and columnist for Jornal O Dia

This Maker Space was born from the desire to bring the public who likes and consumes the artisans' products closer to Rede Asta. The goal is for people to see the creative process of an upcycled handmade piece in practice, get involved, and enjoy seeing unique and exclusive pieces come to life.
“This exchange of knowledge is incredible, as is the activity in the Space. Furthermore, actions like this introduce Rede Asta and our purpose to more people. They also spark curiosity among the store's customers.” Roberta Lomonaco | Manager of Espaço Asta
The next workshop will be on April 4th. It will be led by artisan Edenelson Soares and will focus on bookbinding using repurposed fabric for the covers. We will provide more details soon.
