2017 is a year of transformation for Rede Asta. We have a new headquarters, a new business model, and several new projects – and that’s just what we’ve already launched! With 12 years of experience, we’ve learned that constant reinvention is essential to continuing our impactful work. Beyond being a social enterprise, we need to be a sustainable one.
The shift began in mid-2016, when we decided to pivot our focus to wholesale. We realized that retail was not the most economically viable solution, which prevented us from scaling our operations to increase the positive change that is our mission.
Our new strategy involves continuing our work in female empowerment and structuring small craft businesses by investing in the sale of upcycling solutions for companies.
The goal is for materials that would otherwise be discarded to become raw materials for creating exclusive, high-quality handmade products. In this way, we gain in sustainability—since waste is given a new purpose and returned to the companies' own stakeholders—while generating income for the artisan groups in our network and stimulating large-scale Brazilian craft production by bringing together various groups across the country.
Another big piece of news is our new headquarters. Our shop, office, and product lab are now all in one place: the Espaço Asta. There, you can get even closer to us, while still having access to products that are good, beautiful, and do good. We will host workshops, collaborative production, and much more.
