We consume intensely and incorrectly. When something we use loses its function, we tend to discard it, set it aside, and abandon it. However, we use the planet's resources to make that item, and we only have one planet. The UN has already warned that if we continue at this pace, by 2050 we will no longer have natural resources to use. The disposal of these products is also not done correctly. A study commissioned by Cempre - Compromisso Empresarial para a Reciclagem warns that only 13% of the 5,565 Brazilian municipalities have structured selective waste collection.
Conscious consumption is the first step toward changing this reality, and one way for this to happen is by understanding the impact of each type of waste on the environment. This way, we can adopt more sustainable attitudes from the moment we acquire the goods and services we need. With this post, we are starting a series here on the Asta Blog about waste problems and solutions, such as: straws and disposables, textile industry waste, paper, electronic waste, glass packaging, cans and PET bottles, High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plastic, etc. Feel free to suggest others you are curious about in the comments; we will walk together toward a more sustainable and conscious world.
